Introduction

The Canadian Forces are a modern and effective military capable of playing a number of important roles at home and abroad. For all our equiment and technology, it is our people who truly allow us to play these roles. These men and women have the skills, knowledge and experience that make the Canadian Forces modern, effective and professional.

Canadian Forces personnel belong to air, land, sea and special operations components. There are approximately: 62,000 Regular Force members and 25,000 Reserve Force members, including 4,000 Canadian Rangers. Expansion is essential for us to be able to continue to protect Canada and to assume a leadership role in the world.

We offer our people unique, challenging and rewarding careers, competitive pay and benefits. We also provide personnel services that support the morale, spiritual and physical well-being and quality of life of Canadian Forces members and their families.

Sophisticated weapon systems and new technology cannot be fully utilized without the best and brightest personnel that our society has to offer. A diverse Canadian Forces means that our sailors, soldiers and air force personnel represent the Canadian population as a whole: men, women, visible minorities and Aboriginal people.

We have made considerable progress over the past few decades and are working very hard to ensure the many cultures that make up the Canadian workforce are represented and accommodated in the Canadian Forces. All new recruits receive cultural awareness, harassment and racism prevention training.
